Korean Snacks Review IV

Image
Part IV: Even more! Today featuring some snacks on the sweeter side ☺ Enjoy! Crown Concho Hazelnut Chocolate Snack   ★ ★ ☆ ☆ These are pretty weird. Imagine a somewhat flavorless puffed cheese doodle, then coat one side with chocolate.. and not just like chocolate flavor, like this flavorless cheese puff is dipped on one side in thick chocolate. That is this snack. It was super strange to eat, for me. The chocolate is really sweet. And the puffs are in this big bag, there are a lot of them in there, it would take me forever to eat it all. Textures: Soft cheese puff, semi-soft chocolate coating on one side Flavors: Chocolate, hazelnut, sweet Sam's final thoughts: They were good. I would buy them again Zoë's final thoughts: I could eat one or two occasionally but I would not buy a whole bag again. Lotte Watermelon Ice   ★ ★ ★ ☆ I wanted to share this one simply because I just love the packaging with some of the foods here. There are a lot more "po...

Lake Park and the 5th Annual Sejong Festival

Image
One of the biggest tourist attractions in Sejong is Lake Park. Over the Chuseok break we walked over there (~40 minute walk) and checked it out. We spent most of the day here, walking around and taking pictures. We hope you enjoy! Here are some pictures from that day: Sejong Lake Park Boardwalks and sidewalks follow the lake the whole way around Sam took this great panorama We saw so many  Nephila clavata , a type of Golden Silk Orb-weaver, it was incredible. They are called golden silk orb weavers because the framework strands are a bright, shiny golden color. The webs are incredibly strong and sticky, so plenty of debris gets caught in them. They are all so huge right now and they are everywhere!! You can see in many webs the males are there too After mating, females will lay their egg sacs which will overwinter The female is brightly colored, yellow with black striping The male can be seen a little distance from her, above the green leaf Welcome...

Looking Around Sejong: Buildings

Image
The city of Sejong has a very unique appearance that neither Zoë and I have ever seen before. We find ourselves staring into the distance at the buildings, the parks, and the bridges. It is truly a beautiful city and we just wanted to take the time to write about the aesthetics of Sejong. I will try and choose one aspect of the city for each post to make sure I don't write a crazy long post. Sejong was designed to be a big city that will become the administrative capital of Korea. There is tons of space because we are located out in the country side. One of our coworkers described Sejong as a "city in the countryside", which we have found to be very accurate. If you drive just outside of Sejong in any direction there are farms and plenty of untouched green space. The location gives Sejong plenty of room to expand to make sure there is room for all of the future inhabitants. Our apartment is located on the outskirts of Sejong. Just south of us is a bridge that is a ma...

Coffee in Korea

Image
Coffee is really, really popular here. In our building, on the first floor, we have at least three coffee shops. It seems like every apartment building has a coffee shop. And like coffee shops in America, shops here also sell cakes and various breakfast foods. A lot of shops have English translations on the menus, plus baristas are polite and patient with us pointing at things. It's convenient that there is no Korean word for Latte or Vanilla. So if I want to order a vanilla latte it is just... "banilla latte," according to my translate app anyway. Coffee is also sort of pronounced like "coppee" which is easy. Although when students forget their books and need to go to the office to make photo copies, they always laugh when I tell them to go make a copy (yep, because it sounds like coffee). The first place we tried was Ediya, which is a popular chain here. We had vanilla lattes and breakfast sandwiches there on the first morning after we arrived. Across the st...
