Spring/Jochiwon Cherry Blossom Festival
We've been told that spring in Korea is short and sweet. Followed by a long, hot, humid summer. Spring is also known for having really terrible air quality, fine yellow dust particles, which blow over from Mongolia/China. Cue children, elderly, and everyone in between wearing face masks.
On the plus side, the temperature has been nicely hanging around 60 F, with lows in the high 30s-40s and highs in the 70s. It's been a nice change of pace from the chilly winter. There is still a lot of wind, and rain, but actually the rain helps to improve air quality so it's actually a good thing.
So, about ten or so days ago we saw a glimpse of our first cherry blossoms right in front of our apartment. I was really excited. Although the trees in Sejong are quite small, there are a lot of them that have been planted and over the course of the following week they all began to bloom. They looked like cotton candy trees, light pink clouds clinging to branching. Just beautiful. These blooms only last a short time so we decided to take a longer walk to the grocery store that weekend and then last weekend we went to Jochiwon for the Cherry Blossoms Festival. Here are some pictures from those two weekends, enjoy! ☺

Hope you enjoyed the pictures. It was really fun and magical. That being said, I do have to share one last picture:
For all the beauty of the cherry blossoms there were a lot of scrap/junk yards on the other side of the river, smelly water treatment plants, and crumbling buildings. It was really interesting.
